Are you afraid of exams.. Dont worry!!

Exams often causes a lot of anxiety for most, but a bit of preparation and you can go a long way to avoid all of this. A friend of mine used to not study but relax, go watch a movie, play some sport etc the two days pror to any exam. This might be a bit extreme for most of us. But there is certainly truth in that routine.

10 quick tips on how to prepare for the coming exams:

1. Eat well and sleep well You brain needs nourishment. Don't reach for the cup of coffee, but foods that give your nutrients and keep your fluid levels up. Plenty of water and juice and Fruit is a great start.  And get a good night's sleep.

2. Fit in body, fit in mind Go for a run or a brisk walk every day. This helps invigorate the whole body.

3. Stop procrastinating! This is the biggest enemy when it comes to studying for exams. Let someone know your schedule, so when they see you still perched in front of the TV, they can remind you.

4. Make short notes as you go Make small notes of things both to re-enforce what you learning as well as to help you revise later. Use short headings as this will help you locate things a lot faster later.

5. Remember things better and for longer For those difficult to remember formulas, equations, words, just repeat, repeat and repeat. Writing it down certainly helps and word association is also a great trick.

6. If you are tired, well you are tired. If you are tired and struggling to stay awake, go for a short walk or take a shower. If this is not of help, then have a rest. You are not achieving much when in this mode.

7. Revise before bed It is amazing how the brain still works when you are asleep. So you made small notes while you were studying ..right? Then revise these just before going to bed and read them the first thing when you wake up, Guranteed results!

8. Ahh the ambience What works for you? Music on or off? Privacy or is it a bit too quite? At the end of the day what works for you may not work for your buddy. As for the mobile? On silent please.

9. Study in short bursts and reward yourself frequently Give  the brain the rest it needs to process the information and store it in a way to be recalled later. Set small goals for yourself. Take a break after every couple of chapters, and reward yourself with a chocolate or a drink. Setup a bigger reward for the end of the day and set goals together with a friend.

10. Practise, practise, practise.. If you can get hold of past exam papers, practise questions, do these. You may think you know the answers, but it is only when you put pen to paper that you will realise how much you know and how much you don't!   All done and you are pretty confident? Well you may even be able to take those two days off prior to the exams. In doing so, keep your
brain fresh for the exam coming up.
